The temperature setting that saves most
Every degree below 24°C adds noticeably to consumption. The 24°C to 25°C range is the best balance of comfort and cost for most Malaysian homes.
Setting 18°C does not cool the room any faster — it just keeps the compressor running long after the room is already comfortable.

Run a ceiling fan alongside it
A ceiling fan on low circulates the cooled air so the whole room feels even. That lets you raise the air-conditioner one or two degrees without noticing the difference.
A fan draws a small fraction of what a compressor does, so the combination almost always comes out ahead.
- Set the temperature to 24°C or 25°C
- Run a ceiling fan on low
- Close the curtains in the afternoon
- Rinse the filters every two weeks
- Schedule a service every three to four months
- Keep the outdoor unit clear and shaded
- Use the sleep timer overnight
Maintenance matters more than people expect
Clogged filters and a coated coil force the compressor to run longer for the same result. It is an effect that builds quietly across a year.
A chemical wash on a long-neglected unit often drops the bill noticeably. The service tends to pay for itself within a few months.

Sleep timers and night-time habits
Body temperature drops during sleep, so the room does not need to stay that cold all night. A sleep timer raises the temperature gradually after you fall asleep.
For a bedroom used eight hours a night, that habit alone can make a visible difference to the monthly bill.
